Hello my gamer cuties, and a warm welcome to this new section of my blog dedicated to... you guessed it, video games!

This is where I will be discussing my personal thoughts on video games, including reviews of games I have played and my thoughts on video game culture as a whole, with a specific focus on how certain video games size up in terms of literature.

First, I think an introduction of my personal experience with video games is necessary. I wouldn't consider myself a gamer in the traditional sense of the word, though if I had more free time (and money), I think I would like to be a full-on gamer girl. Instead, I would consider myself more of a casual gamer that enjoys watching others play more intense games on YouTube and Twitch.

I first started playing video games when I was very young. As someone with three older siblings, it's only natural that I grew up playing video games on the GameCube, GameBoy, PlayStation, and XBox. I've always enjoyed sinking my teeth into a good video game, losing hours of sleep just to finish the story line or complete all the levels. I spent a lot of time as a child playing Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Pokemon, and Mario games with my brother and sisters. As my siblings got older, moved out, and left all their video game equipment to me, I found myself continuing to play the old video games they left behind during the few hours of free time I had. My parents bought me a Wii and a Nintendo DS, and I became interested in sim games like Harvest Moon, Animal Crossing, and Rune Factory, where I could essentially build my own life, and I enjoyed playing Pokemon, Mario, and an assortment of other games with my friends.

Sometimes I forget how funny the Animal Crossing villagers are XD

Sadly, I never did get into any shooter games, since I never had enough time to practice the controls and my parents weren't a big fan of video games, so they refused to let me get an Xbox or Playstation. However, I enjoy watching others play games like Call of Duty. Now that I'm older, I could buy games like these for myself, and if I had the time to really sit down and learn the controls, I would love to get into (what I consider) these more advanced games.

I've always considered gaming to be a great source of literature, especially because my favorite types of games are ones with good stories. I tend to spend way more time on games with good stories than on simple platforming or puzzle games. I even remember crying at then end of the first two Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games as a child because I grew so attached to my character and her Pokemon partner that I didn't want their journey to end. I believe that video games are a great source of literature, simply because your own investment in the characters' success (i.e. winning the game) creates a much more immersive and meaningful experience. I am looking forward to exploring more games, specifically ones I normally would never think to pick up, in the coming months, and experiencing new kinds of stories in the form of video game literature.

I hope you'll join me on my journey!

Until next time~
